Why I started this newsletter

When I began renovating my townhouse, I had a background in architecture and design—but even that wasn’t enough. I lost money. I lost sleep. And for long stretches, I nearly lost my mind.

Because renovation isn’t just picking finishes.
It’s project management, building science, code compliance, budget triage, and emotional battles—all at once.

And here’s the truth no one tells you:
It doesn’t matter how beautiful your design is—if what’s behind the walls isn’t right, everything falls apart if not now then later.

I learned that the hard way. My finishes got ruined. My timeline changed to years. I made expensive mistakes. And I’ve met others in the same boat even people who were only renovating an apartment.

That’s why I started RenoQueen:
To demystify the process, show what most blogs leave out, and help others avoid the disasters I went through.

Why This Newsletter Is Different

There’s no shortage of renovation content out there—but much of it is:

  • Generic

  • Repetitive (I didn’t feel the need to add to the many resources available for things such as “best green paints” or “10 layout ideas”)

  • Biased information put forth by brands ("foam is harmless”)

  • Out of touch with real homeowners’ struggles

RenoQueen is different because:

  • Personal experience plus a background in design, architecture and deep interest in architectural history

  • A voice geared toward homeowners

  • Clear, simplified explanations of complex building decisions—no jargon, no BS

  • Advice that’s been vetted with pros—not pulled from other blogs or Pinterest

  • I do not churn out frequent, surface-level posts, you’ll find fewer—but far more detailed and vetted articles. Good renovation advice deserves the time it takes, and that’s what I care about: real insight and clarity that saves you money, stress, and headaches.

What You Get When You Subscribe

Behind every post is a serious amount of work:
Research. Interviews. Product vetting. Drawing diagrams. Writing. Revising. Swearing. Rewriting.

I spend hours digging through info —you wouldn’t believe how much of it is flat-out wrong—and there’s rarely anyone setting the record straight.

An annual subscription is less than $6/month, and if it saves you from one bad decision, it’s more than paid for itself.

🧡 Can’t pay right now? Stay on the free list.
I keep the quality high no matter what—because I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed and under budget.
Every reader matters to me, paid or not.

If you like my newsletter, you can discover others at the Sample.ai. This is a cross-promotion; not an advertisement.
