The stack effect is so interesting!

I did not know this at all and I think it just helped explain why the apartment I rent stays so hot in the summer — there isn’t enough ventilation for the hot air to escape!

It’s so interesting how your nightmare reno meant you learnt all this stuff you probably wouldn’t have otherwise known!

Thank you Michael. I always found it hard understand when the engineers explain it. I had to digest everything and explain it in a way I can understand it.

Insulating our top floor wall helped a lot. You can shade the hottest windows and use a circulating fan. The roof may be uninsulated

I was just thinking about you today and your last post which was fantastic. I want to read it again. I've been off sub for a bit to catch up on life but I love how you have been sharing how you started writing.

Yeah it’s good to be able to put things in your own words.

I think part of what makes my apartment hot is that it is the middle apartment of a three levelled apartment block, and so there is no properly ceiling and roof, and so, it’s just a cement structure that’s been lined with crap to make it look pretty.

But me and my partner do what we can to make it cooler with fans etc.

Anyways, thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it. And I totally understand taking a break from substack, I feel I’m gonna have to take one soon haha

Thank you Sonya. I was a bit nervous about writing a technical article and I am glad it was helpful.

Really good, and written in such an understandable way, which is always so beneficial when talking about something very technical, which can be so baffling.
